When we first started the home buying process I knew I wanted to write several home decor, remodeling and other house related posts. I take great pride in how I’ve styled my home. When we have new visitors, I love walking them through and telling them the stories behind the multitudes of photos and other items sitting around.
Since we registered at Macy’s, several of the items in our home were wedding gifts from Macy’s. So, I was exited to find out about Macy’s Heart of Haiti line. Heart of Haiti features beautiful handmade artwork created by Haitian artisans.
The devastating earthquake of January 2010 has made it very difficult for Haitians to make a living. Raw materials have been wiped out, there is a lack of secure and sanitary conditions and no funding to support economic relief.
Purchasing one of these handcrafted masterpieces directly benefits Haitian artisans by allowing them to support their families with dignity and purpose. This initiative offers the first sustainable work since the earthquake, enabling artisans to repair homes, pay school fees and feed as well as clothe their families.
We received the 10″ Metal Cutout Vase (which is currently on sale for $39.99) and I LOVE it! The detailing is so amazing (and hard to capture in a photo). It’s also much sturdier than I was expecting.
I love to think of all of the special attention that went into making this beautiful piece!
It currently lives on the fireplace next to our wedding wine box. Although, I think it will be a floating piece that finds a new shelf to sit on in different areas of the house.
You should certainly check out the whole Heart of Haiti line. Here are few of my favorites:
I think the serving tray will be my next addition, but I do love everything about the collection. There’s even a few handmade jewelry items!
