I’ve debated whether or not to have GenPink be geared specifically to women or keep it more neutral with the occasionally pinkness. Since this has been an ongoing debate I’m always interested to find sites that are geared specifically to women (or so they say). This mornings I found SheZoom – A new online community focused on woman-friendly, compelling and real-world information. Essentially SheZoom is a video sharing YouTubeish site geared towards women that launched in March of 2008.
I thought I’d share a video that proposed some interesting questions about who is happier – men or women and single or married people. Watch the video and then let us know what you think.
In my opinion men are happier than women because women seem to be more critical of themselves and attract/exaggerate drama. I would say that it’s hard to say whether single or married people are happier because I know several people who are unhappily married and yet I know many who are married and love it. So for that I’ll say I don’t know.
I find these kind of debates to be fascinating and frustrating at the same time because clearly happiness is such an individual and personal thing. Happiness comes from so many different sources for different people. I think the question shouldn’t be “who’s happiest” but rather “who’s figured themselves out enough to know how to live a fulfilled life.”
It’s obviously impossible to generalize across such large demographics. There is no way to say that across the entire world, one gender is universally more happy than the other.
Men may or may not be more happy. The thing is that the average male probably isn’t going to go too crazy about disclosing his emotional state at the moment. If he does, it will be to a very limited group of people, which could create a different impression of his state of mind than is actually the case.
And of course, different personalities tend more to lightheartedness and optimism more than others. And cloudy days might make people less happy than sunny days.
But I’m not going to make a final decision because I’ve never been married or female.
In my opinion men are happier than women because women seem to be more critical of themselves and attract/exaggerate drama.
Let’s cut to brass tacks here. Men are generally dumber, therefore they are more likely to be happy.
this is a very interesting discussion (last comment aside), and i completely agree with rachel’s concluding statement that those who have figured themselves out and know what they value are able to achieve happiness and appreciate details that those who are less secure would otherwise not notice. happiness is conceivably the most subjective phenomenon imaginable, however benefitting form a strong, secure foundation allows even the most trivial things and insignificant events to produce happiness. such as replying to a blog post. happiness achieved.
