I have had a blast at some of the Dallas Summer Musicals (DSM) productions so far this year, including Cinderella and The King and I, and, most recently, Dirty Dancing. But I am really looking forward to what’s coming up for the 2015-2016 season at the Music Hall at Fair Park.
So, go get your musical theatre on this year!
The Sound of Music, running November 3-22, 2015: This might just be the most beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, thanks to the classic 1965 movie with Julie Andrews. I’ve never actually seen The Sound of Music on stage, so I’m excited for this one.
Elf The Musical, running December 8-20, 2015: The movie Elf has become a Christmas tradition, and now this holiday hit is a Broadway musical. The new tour is sure to bring a little holiday spirit into your heart.
The Bridges of Madison County, running February 2-14, 2016: The Broadway tour of this Tony Award-winning musical tells the poignant story of a whirlwind romance between a rural housewife and a National Geographic photographer.
The Little Mermaid, running March 11- 27, 2016: Life is the bubbles, under the sea! The Little Mermaid was always a favorite in my house as a kid, and I’m looking forward to DSM’s production of the Disney fairytale.
Wicked, running April 20 to May 22, 2016: Are you a good witch, or a bad witch? This Broadway smash tells the true story of the Wicked Witch of the West.
Ragtime The Musical, running May 24 to June 4, 2016: The all-new touring production follows the stories of a wealthy housewife, a Harlem music man and a Jewish immigrant as they seek their own success in turn-of-the-century New York.
Bullets Over Broadway, running June 14-26, 2016: Hijinks ensure when a young playwright has his first Broadway production financed by a wealthy gangster. This Woody Allen musical comedy has a jazzy score and lots of laughs.
42nd Street, running June 28 to July 10, 2016: A backstage musical, 42nd Street is about a famed Broadway director putting on a new hit play at the height of the Great Depression.
The 2015-2016 Dallas Summer Musicals season has a little something for everyone. I can’t wait to enjoy some of these productions over the next year – how about you?
