There are those girls who are giddy when it comes to Valentine’s Day, and there are others who frankly don’t care much about it. For those of us who are single, we may try to avoid the buzz around this Hallmark holiday. If you take a closer look, this day is not just about having a significant other. The day should be spent with the people we like most. Here are some practical gifts to show your favorite people how much you adore them on America’s most romantic day:
Get crafty
The quote, “Pictures are worth a thousand words,” is absolutely true. Have you looked back at a picture and reflected on that very moment? Photos make excellent, memorable gifts, and they’re cheap to print. A collage would be a perfect gift for your Valentine—whether that person is your BFF or a long-time crush. Paste your pictures on a poster board or in a small scrapbook. You can even use quirky smartphone apps such as Instagram (for iPhone) and Lightbox (for Android) to add themes to your pictures before printing them. If you enjoy hands-on activities, this project is for you! And, the final product will surely last a lifetime.
Indulge in essence of chocolate
Chocolate is a popular delicacy when it comes to Valentine’s Day. For a fun, inexpensive event on V-Day, host a fondue night with your best friends. Head to the grocery store to buy items that pair up with chocolate fondue, such as fruits, marshmallows, and chunks of cake and brownies. Split the grocery list with your friends, so everyone can save money. Preparing fondue doesn’t require many kitchen items. Just silverware, plates/bowls, a microwave and your drink of choice. Best of all, fondue makes for a stress-free meal and will closely bond your group together.
It’s the small things…
If you’re strapped of cash this month, here’s another cheap gift idea that can go a long way. Buy a pack of red or pink balloons, and place a small gift inside each one before filling up the balloons with air. The gifts can be small wrapped chocolates, candy and love poems. Tape the balloons together when you’re done, and it’ll look like a balloon bouquet. The receiver of this gift will have lots of fun popping the balloons, and maybe they’ll let you help out!
Don’t let the blues get to you this Valentine’s Day. If you take the time to be around your favorite people, anything you do will be a blast.
