See the World

I’ve worn glasses for twenty years. Kinda crazy to think that it’s been that long. Heck, it’s crazy to think I’ve done ANYTHING that long. Where does the time go? I can honestly say I didn’t always love having to wear glasses. But these days, being a glasses wearer is “cool”. In fact there are plenty of people I know who wear fun frames even if they have perfect vision. There are certainly a few annoying things about being a girl in glasses (hello, rain and blurry makeup application) but for the most part adding some glasses to your look can be a fun way to show some personality.

A pair of glasses helps you see the world. The perfect pair of glasses helps the world see you.

I make most of my purchases online these days. So it’s no surprise that I would turn to glasses.com for options when looking for new glasses. The geek girl in me LOVES their mobile app that lets you virtually try on frames. The fashionista in me is super excited at the brands they carry. And, truth be told I’m excited about their 30 day no questions asked return policy – because hello buyer’s remorse is no fun.

I love this video from Glasses.com. In under two minutes “Eleanor” shows how many moments her glasses have helped her see. I was about the same age as the girl in the video when I started wearing them as well.

There’s the famous saying “if walls could talk”, I like to think “if glasses could talk”.

My glasses have seen:

  • numerous weddings
  • many many birthdays of loved ones
  • the Eiffel Tower
  • Rockettes
  • Colorado mountains in the Winter
  • Florida beaches in the Summer
  • Rome in the Spring
  • NYC at Christmas time
  • Argentina at New Years
  • innumerable books
  • countless faces
  • good memories as well as the sad ones

I could share many ‘a TBT photo of myself in glasses. Perhaps one day I will. I love how a fun pair can add a little pizzaz to an outfit. And at the same time how a traditional pair makes me feel “official”. I certainly have occasions where I opt for the playful look and times where it’s important to exude professionalism. So, I thought it would be fun to share a few personalities from Glasses.com and how I’d style them. And let’s be real, these are all on my wishlist!

Fiery & Flirty with Finely by Kate Spade NY

These Kate Spade New York glasses come in Black, Tortoise and Strawberry. I Love LOVE them in the bright red. I think these would be fun to wear with an all black or all white outfit with the frames and perhaps some bright shoes being the focus. I also like to pair a bright frame with bright lips. Others may opt for more neutral makeup.

Basic Black with Vogue

I believe every gal should have a traditional frame that goes with everything. I have a black pair of Vogue glasses that I wear with business suits as well as my gym clothes. They can be dressed up or dressed down. They can be worn with smoky-eye or no makeup at all. I’ve had my Vogue glasses for close to three years and I have received many compliments about them. These frames are modern, sleek and have just a touch of embellishment on the sides which grabs people’s attention. I’d style these particular pair with a pencil skirt and flowy top for a “get things done” kind of look. Here’s me on a boat, with my Vogue glasses on.

Trendy & Touristy with Tortoise Ernest Hemingway

As a blonde I love a good pair of Tortoise frames. I feel like they compliment my hair, fair skin and eyebrow color. I think because they are a neutral-ish color you can go a little quirkier with the frame style. I love how Tortoise frames pair with Maxi skirts. Truth be told I love how everything pairs with Maxis! Amiright, ladies? These Ernest Hemingway  frames have a simple round rim with a playful temple stem.

Vintage Flare with Havana & Green

You can blame it on Mad Men or the fact that trendsetters are nostalgic, but Vintage styles never fall flat these days. I love the look of these Ray-Bans in Havana & Green. I could see these styled with a top-knot, a sun-dress and some casual shoes. They pretty much make the look, so you wouldn’t have to do much. If you want to go the extra mile you could add a wing-tip liner. Here’s a great tutorial, if you need one.
