Broadway legend Andrew Lloyd Webber’s high-octane Broadway and West End hit School of Rock – The Musical is now playing in North Texas. You can see the musical now at Music Hall at Fair Park (August 15–26, 2018), presented by Dallas Summer Musicals and Broadway Across America. The tour will then head to Fort Worth where it will play at Bass Performance Hall August 28 – September 2, 2018 presented by Performing Arts Fort Worth.
As many of us know, the musical is based on the film, School of Rock, which features Jack Black as Dewey Finn. Jack Black isn’t in this musical, but the actor that plays him is just as funny and quirky! The storyline follows Dewey, a failed, wannabe rock star, who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. While teaching these pintsized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover her wild child within.
Audience members were singing and dancing along to popular songs from the movie, which was even more awesome as many of the songs were sung by the cast of kids. They were the true stars of the show! With lots of energy and character, the children were amazing singers and lived up to their roles from the movie. Many played their instruments live, which was impressive. The show overall will have you rockin’ out to the guitar-shredding rock band that is School of Rock.
