In honor of the new genpink redesign (OH you’ve been reading via RSS and haven’t noticed?) we are introducing new and existing contributors to genpink. Let’s get started:
Courtney Olson
Coffee or tea?
COFFEE. I can’t survive without either an Americano (when it’s cold) or an iced latte (when it’s hot) every morning. I drink tea here and there too, especially since I try to stay away from soda and iced tea is a nice option when dining out, but coffee is the one I can’t live without.
Best advice for life in your twenties in 5 words?
If not now, then when?
Favorite quote:
There’s a line in Bob Dylan’s book, Chronicles: Volume One, that caught my attention when I read it and has stuck with me ever since.
“A song is like a dream, and you try to make it come true.”
This works on so many levels for me, since I’m a songwriter. The bigger meaning I think everyone can take from it, though, is that every big dream is just a series of smaller dreams which have the potential to come true, mostly likely one at a time. It makes the bigger dreams seem much less daunting.
What makes you different?
Everything I can think to say reminds me that a lot of us are similar in some way or another.
I guess maybe that I came to Nashville to be around the music but not to try to get “in.” I half-heartedly tried for a few months and then I got a big girl job. I love the idea that I could run into anyone and anything might happen, but I’m also content to write songs in my bedroom and play the same coffee shop over and over and over. It’s about fun for me, not money.
Favorite pink thing?
I have a wooden teddy bear painted pink with my name on it in black. My first grade teacher gave them to her whole class that year. Everyone had different colors. Mine is still on display in my bedroom… I sort of wonder if anyone else still has theirs.
If we were to buy you a present where should we look?
Etsy. Love handmade. Love supporting small businesses, family, and friends who use Etsy.
