Fashion Project: Fashion as Force for Good

Fashion Project: Fashion as Force for Good

Thanks to Fashion Project for sponsoring this post.

I am no stranger to thrifting. I’ve found some great items in various second-hand stores, websites and apps. When I heard about Fashion Project I knew I had to share their story. Fashion Project combines two of my loves: fashion + giving back.

Fashion Project: Fashion as Force for Good

After finding a great brand name item in a thrift store that was headed to a textile recycler, co-founders Anna Palmer and Christine Rizk wondered if it would be possible to maximize that jacket’s value and donate the majority of the proceeds. That’s where the idea of Fashion Project was born.

At Fashion Project, our mission is to raise as much money as possible for charity by creating a community where our members can donate clothing and shop for causes they care about. Our members are our heroes – every sweater, handbag, or designer shoe donated, starts a movement that impacts the lives of others around the world.

Fashion as a force for…

As you may know, there are several local thrift stores that support a nonprofit organization. What sets Fashion Project apart from those groups is the sheer number of organizations that Fashion Project has supported. Whenever a an item is donated, the giver gets to decide which cause she’d like to support.

Since its launch in 2012, Fashion Project has become a force in the fashion industry, powering the clothing donation program for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer with the Council of Fashion Designers of America, partnering with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week to give back to amfAR, and launching in-store donation programs with Nordstrom, Helmut Lang, Joie, Milly and Elie Tahari. Fashion Project is also a part of the exclusive Neiman Marcus InCircle Program.

Shop by Cause

If there is a particular cause that speaks to you, you can shop only items that support that non-profit. My brother in a Type 1 Diabetic, so JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) is a cause I like to support. So, I started my search on Fashion Project’s shopping area with JDRF, as well as a few chapters that support JDRF.

Here are some of the items available to purchase that support JDRF. I think the Kay Unger Dress (at 88% off!) would be a fun Fall piece. In fact you could get that dress plus the $45 Coach purse both for under $100.

Shop by Brand

If you don’t have a particular cause in mind when you’re shopping, or if you’re on a lookout for a specific brand you have sooo many options!

Here are few items I could see as nice additions to my closet!

A mission driven organization

This is a great video about Fashion Project’s Story:

As a fun side-note, I think it’s great that Project Runway host Heidi Klum donated a few of her items to support amfAR. See more on Glamour.

  1. Thanks for sharing, this is a very cool project, loving
the concept! Most of my prized possessions are clothes found in my local thrift
shops and most of them are authentic vintage stuff. From what I can see they
have a lot of clothing at this moment and I even have a few favorites, I’ll
check it back hoping to find something I like on sale.
