January in Photos

I’m not one for creating resolutions in January for the whole year, but I did decide to take a break from Facebook for the month. Since Instagram became my primary source of keeping up with everyone I may have gone a little overboard with picture taking this month. So, here’s a quick run-down of my list for the last 31 days.

Genpink : January in Photos | a fun way to do a monthly recap as a blogger

  • We rang in the New Year low-key this year, just us and another couple that lives a mile or so away. Good food, good drinks and nice conversation. That’s my idea of fun these days.
  • My tea addiction has progressed so much I threatened to do a #tea365 photo challenge on Instagram. Current favs: TAZO awake and Trader Joes Candy Cane Green Tea
  • We rang in New Year’s Day with a bunch of the “lucky” foods: Black Eyed Peas, Turnips, and Cabbage. I even ended up googling the source of the New  Year’s Day food superstitions.
  • The hubs was in a pretty bad car accident on Christmas Eve. Which ended up working out for him since he got a new car out of it. He’s seriously in love with his new car.
  • Speaking of him, he wears a suit and tie to work every day so I’ve become quite a bargain hunter for beautiful ties, especially those with matching pocket squares.
  • And yes, it’s January the gyms are more crowded. But I promise I’ve been every week for the past 2.5 years, aside from the time when I was recovering from foot surgery.
  • I have several crafty friends, Kendall (pictured above) knitted that hat she is wearing!
  • Random thing you may not know about me: I’ve worked from home for the past 3 years. I have a great setup for a home office, but I also end up working from the couch. I do find that I work more hours than traditional 9-5ers because my work is always just a few steps away.
  • Since my foot surgery (in August) I’ve made it a point to go walking every day. It helps with the healing process and it’s a fun way to explore our new neighbor.
  • <insert some commentary about me being a cat lady> ha. Yes, I am one of those people who calls my cat my “furchild.”
  • One of the nice things about owning a home is a garage for DIY projects.
  • Also on the foot surgery topic: I can’t wear heels for up to a year so I’ve gotten quite creative while being limited with my foot attire, especially with dresses.
  • We kept our Christmas decor up pretty far into January. This was our first year with a tree. It was so nice to be able to put out all of my Disney ornaments. My step-mom has been collecting them for me since I was 5!
  • I got some new pink nerd glasses (yes they are prescription), I’m still getting used to them. I’ll probably write a full review.
  • Did you know Chapstick has all sorts of crazy flavors? Red Velvet, Cake Batter and more. I had no idea!

  • yay Home Depot. My friend calls weekends there “homeowners happy hour”
  • I listed 50 items on my Poshmark closet this month! I plan to add more in February.
  • fun photo of Rory’s fancy tie knotting skills.
  • There’s a movie theater near us (LOOK Cinema for those of you who live in N. Dallas) that has half price movie tickets and half-price bottle of wine on Wednesdays! We went twice this month.
  • I spent last weekend volunteering, painting, redecorating and just generally spending time as a safe house for teens in Dallas. It was physically and emotionally exhausting and also so very rewarding.
  • It’s hard to believe it’s almost Valentine’s already. I love all things pink and cutesy so those goodies from Tart Bakery were right up my alley.
  • random photo I took of the Margaret Hunt Hill bridge near downtown Dallas
  • I met Joel Salatin this week. Treehugger calls him “America’s Most Influential Farmer”.
  • Have you heard of the Pixar Theory? Jon Negroni has a theory that every Pixar movie is connected on a continuos timeline with several overlapping story lines throughout the films. He wrote a long post about his Pixar Theory. We decided to re-watch all of the movies in his proposed order to follow along with his theory. We’ve watched Brave, Ratatouille, Up, Wall-E (pictured) and Finding Nemo so far.
  • I’m finishing up my Provisional (initiation) year with Junior League of Dallas. It’s been fun, I’m met some great women and I look forward to future years. The wine was from a quick meet up with some gals before a meeting.
  • I’ve been a bit obsessed with Chai Nespresso this month.
  • I love when my Birchbox comes in the mail! It’s like Christmas every month. {here’s my referral link if you want to try it for a month, it’s only $10)
  • and last but not least, quick photo with some fellow blogger friends at a media event a few weeks ago. Pictured: Betsy of Lipgloss & High Heels and Autumn of Mama Challenge.

What was the highlight of your January? If you are a fellow blogger, do you do monthly recaps? I’ve been blogging for almost 7 years! I find that I like the opportunity to look back at the month as a whole.
