Magician Derek Hughes has arrived in Pittsburgh, PA for five weeks of magic served with a side of laughs. His show, “Bag of Tricks” is showing now in downtown through February 16.
You may have seen this witty magician as a finalist on season 10 of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, as well as CW’s Penn & Teller: Fool Us.
Hughes performs a variety of close-up magic acts with cards and other objects, and even throws in a few mind reading tricks that left me speechless. Hughes’ swift and mysterious moves, combined with his humor, impressed the crowd all throughout the show (around 75 minutes). He made everything look effortless and flowed from one trick to another. Hughes even read us his new children’s book! I’m speaking for the many guests around me when I say we were left wanting more magic.
The craziest trick was when Hughes made a girl’s engagement ring disappear! Don’t worry, her husband unlocks several boxes within other boxes to get it back (haha). See a video of this exact trick performed by Hughes on The Ellen Show (featuring Olivia Wilde). Truly mind boggling!
I absolutely love the space at Liberty Magic. It’s a smaller, intimate space, created like a speakeasy, and it’s the same street where Harry Houdini performed magic in 1916! Adults may bring in their own beer and wine (see the FAQs for exact details). You’ll have a good view of any performance no matter where you sit. And if you’ve ever wanted to be a guest in a magic show, this is your chance! Many audience members are chosen to partake in the coolest tricks – making for an even more memorable experience.
VIP guests are invited in a different room within Liberty Magic for a meet and greet with the headline performer after the show. You’ll even get to see a few bonus tricks!

Liberty Magic is located at 811 Liberty Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
